Company Credit Cards: Yes or No?

Bill from Utah asks: “Do most other members give employees company credit cards?”

NSCA responds: From what we’ve seen, yes – most integration firms do provide company credit cards to employees. But this perk is often given only to those employees who travel frequently, such as members of the sales team.

If you do provide company credit cards, we recommend that only four types of purchases be made with these cards:

  1. Gas
  2. Hotels
  3. Meals
  4. Hardware

Within these four categories, we also have suggestions about how to ensure that the company credit card isn’t abused, and how to best track and reconcile purchases later. We also recommend clearly communicating expectations upfront with employees who carry company credit cards.

For employees who don’t travel, try using one “in-house” card for administrative staff purchases.
