Education, Technology and Demo Rooms Post Strong Showing at Expo 2007
Trove of new products, news of move to Dallas in ’08 highlight NSCA’s Expo
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA, April 26, 2007—With the lights off, aisles empty, booths taken down, and carpets rolled-up, Expo 2007 may be over, but its presence and impact made a lasting impression. Making its stand at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL in March, the show drew 9,000 attendees that included systems integrators, consultants, designers, manufacturers, and other allied professionals who streamed into town from all over the U.S. and the world.
On the main show floor, over 400 exhibitors launched more than 1,000 new products. Marking its Expo return with a hands-on approach to developing new business and developing the skills required to serve an expanding market, The Digital Signage Showcase was joined by the new-for-’07 Intelligent Buildings Showcase to further broaden attendees’ show floor experiences. Exploring the implications and dynamics of how IP-based services effect cost, construction, and management of next generation commercial structures, the latter used dedicated stations to effectively demonstrate the latest technologies holding promise for today’s generation of “smart” buildings. Also new for ’07, a special “Tools of the Trade” area placed exhibitors of all of the latest gear and innovative tools in a dedicated section that was accessible and easy to navigate.
Jan Sandri, president of FSR, said her company had fantastic results at Expo this year. “We had great booth traffic and the quality of attendance was excellent,” Sandri said.
Attendees have traditionally flocked to the Expo to view the latest products, and for its continuing education opportunities. Badged visitors took advantage of earning more than 420 Learning Units (LUs) within classes providing a total of 550 hours of industry education. With courses covering everything from business topics and project management to system design and legal matters, attendees enrolled in more education classes this year than ever before.
Expo’s demo rooms buzzed around the clock during their hours of operation, with companies including AKG, Allen & Heath, American Music and Sound, Aviom, Bose, BSS, Community, Crown, Danley Sound Labs, dbx, Dynacord, EAW, Electro-Voice, Harman Pro Group, IED, JBL Professional, KV2 Audio, L-Acoustics US, Lexicon, Martin Audio, Renkus-Heinz, Soundcraft, Studer and Tannoy all reporting strong activity for the duration of the show.
“We had a continual stream of first-class individuals visiting our demo room this year who were extremely attentive,” Community VP John Wiggins notes. “Based upon just our demo room presence alone, we felt Expo proved to be money and time well spent.”
Vital Expo statistics revealed by NSCA show that the average buyer at this year’s show purchases more than $2.1 million worth of products for resale annually.
“Expo was the best show of the year to reach the Systems Integration Channel,” said Kara Martin, senior marketing and communications manager for pro video and desktop video editing at Grass Valley, Inc. “Our sales team was enthusiastic about the high-quality leads that will turn into future business for Grass Valley.”
Off the show floor and outside of the classrooms, attendees proved that they could cut loose too by inundating ExpoJam! to hear The Commitments deliver Dublin soul, and reveling with the Drunk Unkles at Orlando’s Howl at the Moon.
In 2008, NSCA plans to move the show to Dallas instead of Las Vegas. A temporary relocation warranted by reduced meeting space available in Las Vegas, Expo ’08 will take advantage of expanded room within the Dallas Convention Center to introduce new events. Beginning with Expo 2009, the show will return to Vegas and its normal pattern of cross-country migration between Florida and Nevada.
